Thejkumar wins State Championship

Top seed M.S. Thejkumar (2382) won the Mangalore FIDE-rated State Open chess championship which concluded here on Wednesday.

Thej, who finished on the same score of 7.5 points with G.A. Stany (2155), claimed the title on a better progressive score.

Both Thej and Stany had to be content with draws in their final round games against P. Gopalkrishna (7) and M.G. Gahan (7) respectively.

Boys: U-7: 1. J. Ashwin (4), 2. S. Vasishta (2); U-9: 1. Sharan Rao (5), 2. R.U. Ananthram (5). U-11: 1. Naren N. Kumar (5.5), 2. H.A. Amogha (5.5). U-13: 1. S. Shreeshan (6), 2. Antonio Viani D’ Cunha (6); U-15: D. Benadikar Shashank (5.5), 2. Rammohan Bhandary (5.5)

Girls: U-9: 1. M. Tulsi (3), 2. R. Akshatha (3); U-11: 1. L. Andria D’ Souza (5.5), 2. Shalon Joanne Pais (4); U-13: Seema Melita Crasta (4); U-15: 1. Pavitra Jagtap (6), 2. Bhargavi Alva (4).

Best unrated player: D. Abhijith (6); Best South Kanara player: Prakash V. Rao (6); Best woman player: Anitha D’ Souza (1); Best veteran player: N.R. Raghuraman (5.5).
